Since its founding in 1997, St. John’s College has been a home away from home for more than 2,000 graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting scholars from over 100 different countries. Drawing upon the strong bonds of trust and communication developed within the St. John’s community, fellows and guests are able to discuss difficult, often contentious, issues in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
UBC’s Graduate Pathways to Success program offers a suite of workshops and events designed to complement a graduate student’s academic curriculum and mentorship experience. Events such as Three Minute Thesis and PhDs Go Public foster effective presentative skills and showcase their research, while a range of personal and professional development offerings help graduate students to flourish in their programs and to develop competencies needed to thrive as professionals.
Aboriginal Graduate Fellowships are awarded to outstanding Aboriginal graduate students and provide a minimum annual stipend of $16,000 plus tuition. Fellowships are awarded annually through an annual competition, with priority given to Aboriginal students whose traditional territory falls, at least in part, within Canada.
